An arbitrary file deletion vulnerability in VMware Workstation was privately reported to VMware. Updates are available to remediate this vulnerability in the affected VMware product.

VMware Workstation contains an arbitrary file deletion vulnerability. VMware has evaluated the severity of this issue to be in the Important severity range with a maximum CVSSv3 base score of 7.8.

A malicious actor with local user privileges on the victim’s machine may exploit this vulnerability to delete arbitrary files from the file system of the machine on which Workstation is installed.

To remediate CVE-2023-20854 update to the version listed in the ‘Fixed Version’ column of the ‘Response Matrix’ found below.
