It is recommended that operators check whether appropriate resilient protection measures are in place to minimize the risk of cyber incidents impacting the grid’s reliability.
    Siemens recommends that operators:
Apply provided security updates using the corresponding tooling and documented procedures made available with the product.
Automatically apply security updates across multiple product instances if automation is supported by the product.
Validate any security update before being applied. It is recommended to perform the update process under the supervision of trained staff in the target environment.
Protect network access with appropriate mechanisms (e.g. firewalls, segmentation, VPN) as a general security measure. In order to run the devices in a protected IT environment, it is advised to configure the environment according to Siemens operational guidelines. Recommended security guidelines can be found at Siemens’ grid security page. For more information, see the associated Siemens security advisory SSA-322980 in HTML and CSAF. CISA reminds organizations to perform proper impact analysis and risk assessment prior to deploying defensive measures. CISA also provides a section for control systems security recommended practices on the ICS webpage at cisa.gov/ics. Several CISA products detailing cyber defense best practices are available for reading and download, including Improving Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity with Defense-in-Depth Strategies. Additional mitigation guidance and recommended practices are publicly available on the ICS webpage at cisa.gov/ics in the technical information paper, ICS-TIP-12-146-01B–Targeted Cyber Intrusion Detection and Mitigation Strategies. Organizations observing suspected malicious activity should follow established internal procedures and report findings to CISA for tracking and correlation against other incidents. No known public exploits specifically target this vulnerability.
