Cybersecurity researchers have identified a new attack that exploits misconfigurations in Apache Hadoop and Flink to deploy cryptocurrency miners within targeted environments. "This attack is particularly intriguing due to the attacker's use of packers and rootkits to conceal the malware," Aqua security researchers Nitzan Yaakov and Assaf Morag said in an analysis published earlier

### Impact _What kind of vulnerability is it? Who is impacted?_ All versions of CRI-O running on cgroupv2 nodes. Unchecked access to an experimental annotation allows a container to be unconfined. Back in 2021, [support was added](https://github.com/cri-o/cri-o/pull/4479) to support an experimental annotation that allows a user to request special resources in cgroupv2. It was supposed to be gated by an experimental annotation: `io.kubernetes.cri-o.UnifiedCgroup`, which was supposed to be filtered from the [list of allowed annotations](https://github.com/cri-o/cri-o/blob/main/pkg/config/workloads.go#L103-L107) . However, there is a bug in this code which allows any user to specify this annotation, regardless of whether it's enabled on the node. The consequences of this are a pod can specify any amount of memory/cpu and get it, circumventing the kubernetes scheduler, and potentially be able to DOS a node. ### Patches _Has the problem been patched? What versions should users upgrade to?...

Red Hat Security Advisory 2024-0050-03 - Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform release 4.14.8 is now available with updates to packages and images that fix several bugs and add enhancements. Issues addressed include a denial of service vulnerability.
There has been a huge increase in demand for running complex systems with tens to hundreds of microservices at massive scale. End users expect 24/7 availability of services they depend on, so even a few minutes of downtime matters. A proactive chaos engineer helps meet user expectations by identifying bottlenecks, hardening services before downtime occurs in a production environment. Chaos engineering is vital to avoid losing trust with your end users. To help address the need for a resilient Kubernetes platform and provide improved user experiences, Red Hat collaborates with the open source co
By Deeba Ahmed An attacker with access to a Kubernetes cluster could chain two vulnerabilities in Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) to escalate privileges and take over the cluster. Debian Linux Security Advisory 5590-1 - Several vulnerabilities were discovered in HAProxy, a fast and reliable load balancing reverse proxy, which can result in HTTP request smuggling or information disclosure.
Google Cloud has addressed a medium-severity security flaw in its platform that could be abused by an attacker who already has access to a Kubernetes cluster to escalate their privileges. "An attacker who has compromised the Fluent Bit logging container could combine that access with high privileges required by Anthos Service Mesh (on clusters that have enabled it) to
