The first Patch Tuesday fixes shipped by Microsoft for 2023 have addressed a total of 98 security flaws, including one bug that the company said is being actively exploited in the wild. 11 of the 98 issues are rated Critical and 87 are rated Important in severity, with the vulnerabilities also listed as publicly known at the time of release. Ubuntu Security Notice 5790-1 - It was discovered that the BPF verifier in the Linux kernel did not properly handle internal data structures. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information. It was discovered that a race condition existed in the Android Binder IPC subsystem in the Linux kernel, leading to a use-after-free vulnerability. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code.

Developers should go beyond the basics to make it harder to exploit the API.

Mozilla developers and community members Lukas Bernhard, Gabriele Svelto, Randell Jesup, and the Mozilla Fuzzing Team reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 107. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 108.

The Performance API did not properly hide the fact whether a request cross-origin resource has observed redirects. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 100.

A use-after-free in WebGL extensions could have led to a potentially exploitable crash. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 107, Firefox ESR < 102.6, and Thunderbird < 102.6.
