Researchers Identify 3 Hacktivist Groups Supporting Russian Interests

At least three alleged hacktivist groups working in support of Russian interests are likely doing so in collaboration with state-sponsored cyber threat actors, according to Mandiant. The Google-owned threat intelligence and incident response firm said with moderate confidence that "moderators of the purported hacktivist Telegram channels 'XakNet Team,' 'Infoccentr,' and 'CyberArmyofRussia_Reborn

CVE-2022-3204

A vulnerability named 'Non-Responsive Delegation Attack' (NRDelegation Attack) has been discovered in various DNS resolving software. The NRDelegation Attack works by having a malicious delegation with a considerable number of non responsive nameservers. The attack starts by querying a resolver for a record that relies on those unresponsive nameservers. The attack can cause a resolver to spend a lot of time/resources resolving records under a malicious delegation point where a considerable number of unresponsive NS records reside. It can trigger high CPU usage in some resolver implementations that continually look in the cache for resolved NS records in that delegation. This can lead to degraded performance and eventually denial of service in orchestrated attacks. Unbound does not suffer from high CPU usage, but resources are still needed for resolving the malicious delegation. Unbound will keep trying to resolve the record until hard limits are reached. Based on the nature of the atta...

5 Network Security Threats And How To Protect Yourself

Cybersecurity today matters so much because of everyone's dependence on technology, from collaboration, communication and collecting data to e-commerce and entertainment. Every organisation that needs to deliver services to their customers and employees must protect their IT 'network' - all the apps and connected devices from laptops and desktops to servers and smartphones. While traditionally,

GHSA-9w7j-q3xw-p9vh: Hyperledger Fabric subject to Denial of Service via non-validated request

A vulnerability exists in Hyperledger Fabric < 2.4 could allow an attacker to construct a non-validated request that could cause a denial of service attack. The peer gateway service tries to extract channel and chaincode information from the signed proposal, but it doesn't check the proposal fields for validity. Therefore a malformed proposal might end up crashing the peer service. This issue has been patched in 2.4.6. There are no known workarounds.

GHSA-m7w4-q5vg-5xfp: Mattermost subject to Denial of Service via upload of special GIF

Mattermost version 7.1.x and earlier fails to sufficiently process a specifically crafted GIF file when it is uploaded while drafting a post, which allows authenticated users to cause resource exhaustion while processing the file, resulting in server-side Denial of Service.

GHSA-3mg9-m3f6-v7fq: Proxy component of Apache Pulsar subject to abuse as Denial of Service endpoint

Improper Input Validation vulnerability in Proxy component of Apache Pulsar allows an attacker to make TCP/IP connection attempts that originate from the Pulsar Proxy's IP address. When the Apache Pulsar Proxy component is used, it is possible to attempt to open TCP/IP connections to any IP address and port that the Pulsar Proxy can connect to. An attacker could use this as a way for DoS attacks that originate from the Pulsar Proxy's IP address. It hasn’t been detected that the Pulsar Proxy authentication can be bypassed. The attacker will have to have a valid token to a properly secured Pulsar Proxy. This issue affects Apache Pulsar Proxy versions 2.7.0 to 2.7.4; 2.8.0 to 2.8.2; 2.9.0 to 2.9.1; 2.6.4 and earlier.

Microsoft Patch Tuesday September 2022: CLFS Driver EoP, IP packet causes RCE, Windows DNS Server DoS, Spectre-BHB

Hello everyone! Let’s take a look at Microsoft’s September Patch Tuesday. This time it is quite compact. There were 63 CVEs released on Patch Tuesday day. If we add the vulnerabilities released between August and September Patch Tuesdays (as usual, they were in Microsoft Edge), the final number is 90. Much less than usual. Alternative […]

GHSA-8gq9-2x98-w8hf: protobuf-cpp and protobuf-python have potential Denial of Service issue

### Summary A message parsing and memory management vulnerability in ProtocolBuffer’s C++ and Python implementations can trigger an out of memory (OOM) failure when processing a specially crafted message, which could lead to a denial of service (DoS) on services using the libraries. Reporter: [ClusterFuzz](https://google.github.io/clusterfuzz/) Affected versions: All versions of C++ Protobufs (including Python) prior to the versions listed below. ### Severity & Impact **Medium 5.7** - [CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H](https://www.first.org/cvss/calculator/3.1#CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) A small (~500 KB) malicious payload can be constructed which causes the running service to allocate more than 3GB of RAM. ### Proof of Concept For reproduction details, please refer to the unit test that identifies the specific inputs that exercise this parsing weakness. ### Mitigation / Patching Please update to the latest available versions of the following pac...
