GHSA-9x7f-gwxq-6f2c: Vyper's bounds check on built-in `slice()` function can be overflowed

## Summary [The bounds check for slices](https://github.com/vyperlang/vyper/blob/b01cd686aa567b32498fefd76bd96b0597c6f099/vyper/builtins/functions.py#L404-L457) does not account for the ability for `start + length` to overflow when the values aren't literals. If a `slice()` function uses a non-literal argument for the `start` or `length` variable, this creates the ability for an attacker to overflow the bounds check. This issue can be used to do OOB access to storage, memory or calldata addresses. It can also be used to corrupt the `length` slot of the respective array. A contract search was performed and no vulnerable contracts were found in production. tracking in issue https://github.com/vyperlang/vyper/issues/3756. ## Details Here the flow for `storage` is supposed, but it is generalizable also for the other locations. When calling `slice()` on a storage value, there are compile time bounds checks if the `start` and `length` values are literals, but of course this cannot ...

November 2023 – January 2024: New Vulristics Features, 3 Months of Microsoft Patch Tuesdays and Linux Patch Wednesdays, Year 2023 in Review

Hello everyone! It has been 3 months since the last episode. I spent most of this time improving my Vulristics project. So in this episode, let’s take a look at what’s been done. Ubuntu Security Notice USN-6619-1

Ubuntu Security Notice 6619-1 - Rory McNamara discovered that runC did not properly manage internal file descriptor while managing containers. An attacker could possibly use this issue to obtain sensitive information or bypass container restrictions.

Why the Right Metrics Matter When it Comes to Vulnerability Management

How’s your vulnerability management program doing? Is it effective? A success? Let’s be honest, without the right metrics or analytics, how can you tell how well you’re doing, progressing, or if you’re getting ROI? If you’re not measuring, how do you know it’s working? And even if you are measuring, faulty reporting or focusing on the wrong metrics can create blind spots and make it harder to

Warning: New Malware Emerges in Attacks Exploiting Ivanti VPN Vulnerabilities

Google-owned Mandiant said it identified new malware employed by a China-nexus espionage threat actor known as UNC5221 and other threat groups during post-exploitation activity targeting Ivanti Connect Secure VPN and Policy Secure devices. This includes custom web shells such as BUSHWALK, CHAINLINE, FRAMESTING, and a variant of LIGHTWIRE. "CHAINLINE is a Python web shell backdoor that is

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-6609-2

Ubuntu Security Notice 6609-2 - Lin Ma discovered that the netfilter subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly validate network family support while creating a new netfilter table. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. It was discovered that the CIFS network file system implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly validate the server frame size in certain situation, leading to an out-of-bounds read vulnerability. An attacker could use this to construct a malicious CIFS image that, when operated on, could cause a denial of service or possibly expose sensitive information.

Ubuntu Security Notice USN-6617-1

Ubuntu Security Notice 6617-1 - It was discovered that libde265 could be made to write out of bounds. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted file, an attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code. This issue only affected Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. It was discovered that libde265 could be made to write out of bounds. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted file, an attacker could possibly use this issue to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code.
