Today, Talos is publishing a glimpse into the most prevalent threats we've observed between Feb. 17 and Feb. 24. As with previous roundups, this post isn't meant to be an in-depth analysis. Instead, this post will summarize the threats we've observed...

Under very specific circumstances (see Required configuration section below), a privileged user is able to cause arbitrary code to be executed which may cause further disruption to services. This is specific to applications written in C#. This affects all MongoDB .NET/C# Driver versions prior to and including v2.18.0

Red Hat Security Advisory 2023-0859-01 - The redhat-virtualization-host packages provide the Red Hat Virtualization Host. These packages include redhat-release-virtualization-host, ovirt-node, and rhev-hypervisor. Red Hat Virtualization Hosts are installed using a special build of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with only the packages required to host virtual machines. RHVH features a Cockpit user interface for monitoring the host's resources and performing administrative tasks. The ovirt-node-ng packages provide the Red Hat Virtualization Host. These packages include redhat-release-virtualization-host, ovirt-node, and rhev-hypervisor. Red Hat Virtualization Hosts are installed using a special build of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with only the packages required to host virtual machines. RHVH features a Cockpit user interface for monitoring the host's resources and performing administrative tasks. Issues addressed include code execution and integer overflow vulnerabilities.

A Vulnerability was discovered in Axis 207W network camera. There is a reflected XSS vulnerability in the web administration portal, which allows an attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript via URL.

In Gluster GlusterFS 11.0, there is an xlators/mount/fuse/src/fuse-bridge.c notify stack-based buffer over-read.

HyperKit is a toolkit for embedding hypervisor capabilities in an application. In versions 0.20210107 and prior, a malicious guest can trigger a vulnerability in the host by abusing the disk driver that may lead to the disclosure of the host memory into the virtualized guest. This issue is fixed in commit cf60095a4d8c3cb2e182a14415467afd356e982f.

Red Hat Security Advisory 2023-0697-01 - Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat's cloud computing Kubernetes application platform solution designed for on-premise or private cloud deployments. This advisory contains the RPM packages for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.10.52. Issues addressed include code execution and deserialization vulnerabilities.

Git for Windows is the Windows port of the revision control system Git. Prior to Git for Windows version 2.39.2, by carefully crafting DLL and putting into a subdirectory of a specific name living next to the Git for Windows installer, Windows can be tricked into side-loading said DLL. This potentially allows users with local write access to place malicious payloads in a location where automated upgrades might run the Git for Windows installer with elevation. Version 2.39.2 contains a patch for this issue. Some workarounds are available. Never leave untrusted files in the Downloads folder or its sub-folders before executing the Git for Windows installer, or move the installer into a different directory before executing it.
